Whakatane Tennis Club's Official Opening Day
The opening day of the Whakatane Lawn Tennis Club, twice layed through inclement weather, took place on Saturday. The president, Mr P. R. Bryers, welcomed old and new members and wished them a successful and enjoyable season. He paid tribute to the voluntary efforts of members in bringing: the courts to their present condition under the guidance of Mr L. Lovelock. The new pavilion, said the president, was also an effort of members under the leadership of Mr T. Hall. He made reference to the good work of Messrs Mclver and Whitehead and H. and C. Many! in. this connection,- and said these meit «i had done yeoman service. , , During the afternoon a competition was conducted which provided an opportunity to all players to join in. Some keen and interesting games were witnessed and from observations some of the new mem- - bers will be an acquisition to the Club and will create keen competition for ladder ranking before the v. season is far advanced. Winners of the competition wer^: Women: Misses M. Hall and Y. Mahy equal. Men: W- Rutherford. '
