Ohope Hall Project: Surf Club Building To Be Extended

A meeting of about 30 members of the Ohope Progress League on Monday night decided not to go ahead with the hall scheme, but instead to build an extension on to the present Surf Club pavilion, subject of course to the permission of the Surf Club, the Domain Bnard and the building authorities. Previous plan was to select a suitable site and build a small nucleus of what would ultimately become a full-scale community centre, with the first part remaining as a supper room. Monday's meeting decided, however, that the finding of i site was going to take a good deal longer that the majority of■ those,-present cared to wait. -

The president, Mr F. G. Cutler, urged the merits of the original scheme, pointing out that a Community Centre could be expected to be subject to a Government subsidy and that, to adopt the plan before the meeting would mean the League would have no equity in the extended building which would not, in any case, serve the purpose of a proper hall.
