Scandinavians Throw Weight In To Battle Against Tuberculosis
As a result of the prevalance of tuberculosis on an epidemic scale in numerous countries and the necessity for immediate emergency measures such as the B.C.G. vaccination programme, the International Children's Emergency Fund has approved an allocation of four million dollars, of which two million are intended for the immediate relief programme in Europe, while the other two million are being set aside for relief in countries outside Europe. / • The carrying out of the programmes in question has been entrusted to the Danish Red Cross, which will act on its own behklf and that of its Scandinavian associates. The headquarters will be at Cop T enhagen. Dr. Johannes Holm, Director of the Anti-Tuberculosis Work of the Danish Red Cross, has been appointed as Technical Director and at the same time Chairman of the Expert Committee on Tuberculosis of the 1.C.W.H.0. This decision was made on account of the results obtained by the Danish Red Cross in the anti-tuber-culosis campaign and the experiments made by the Scandinavian countries in this field. The Danish Red Cross is very pleased by this fresh example of close collaborating among the Scandinavian countries.
