Whakatane Brigade Wins Chilton Cup
Showing the high standard they have reached through their training the Whakatane Fire Brigade had a successful day at the Bay of Plenty Fire Brigade competitions held at Matamata on Monday. They gained three firsts, a second and a fifth. The team’s greatest triumph was winning the coveted Chilton Cup for aggregate championship points. There were entries from brigades from Opotiki, Whakatane, Te Puke, Mt Maunganui, iTauranga, Matamata and Rangitaiki Plains.
Events in which the Whakatane team were successful:— v Hawkins Memorial (one man run), Fireman A. Theobald 1; Chilton Cup (aggregate points), Whakatane 1; four man motor 1; four man hose and standpipe 2; three man race 5. Rangitaiki’s Showing '
Though engaged ,in competition work for the first time, the Rangitaiki team made a good showing to take third place in the four-man hose and standpipe event. Though pot in the top bracket in the other events, they showed promise of form and should clo better next time out.
