Brisk Business At Methodist Bazaar Builds Church Funds

There was a queue. at the door when the Whakatane Methodist Church bazaar opened yesterday morning, and the stalls swung right into brisk business. By 2.30 p.m. most of the stocks were sold out, and the Church had benefited by approximately £l6O. With afternoon tea business still to come and the last of the fancy goods to clear, there is no doubt that figure was finally exceeded. Altogether, a highly successful day, credit for which must go to the hard workers of the Guild, who have met every week for the past six months to prepare the fancy work stocks, which alone realised £6O.

Apart from that angle of their effort, full credit must be given to the stall holders and all those workers who helped to transform the Church hall intp the attractive picture it presented yesterday. Nor can one forget the men. They put in their usual effort with the heavy work of preparation. Luncheon and morning and afternoon teas had been prepared by a team with a real food sense and a gift for making it look as good as it tasted. Luncheon would have done credit to a first-class hotel, and the mouth-watering variety of homemade dainties offered at the tea tables left nothing to be desired. Following-were the stall holders:

Aprons, Mesdames R. T. Haultain and B. H. Woollams; cakes etc., Mesdames Haultain and Comer; fancy work, Mrs Canning, Miss Grose; novelties, Mesdames G. Hellyar and Print; Delicatessan, Mesdames R. H. Woollams and L. Brown; flowers and vegetables, Mesdames L. Berg and Hanham; bran tub, Mrs W. Teesdale.
