A chance meeting with Spencer Tracy on’ a London street corner has led to A. E. Matthews, one of Britain’s outstanding character acttors, being selected for an important role in M.G.M.’s *‘Edward. My Son.”. Matthews, who over the years has starred in literally dozens of plays on both sides of the Atlantic, bumped into Tracy in front of Claridge’s Hotel. The two actors appeared together on, the New York stage in “R.U.R.” almost 20 years ago and hadn’t seen each 1 other since. “Edward, My Son” in which Deborah Kerr is co-starred with Tracy, is being produced by Edwin H. Knopf.
