PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BAZAAR AT EDGECUMBE
Brisk Business At Bright Stalls The annual bazaar held at the Presbyterian Church Hall on Saturday was an outstanding success.
It was opened by the Rev. J. H. Starnes who, in his short address specially thanked all the ladies who had worked so hard all through the year preparing for the day’s event. Mrs Armstrong then presented a beautiful sheath of spring flowers to Mrs Walter Gow, bazaar organiser, in recognition of the tremendous amount of work which she had done. Mrs Gow suitably replied, thinking all those who had worked so well and so willingly with her, declaring that she alone was not responsible for the success of the bazaar. The stalls which were very tastefully decorated, were many and exceptionally well stocked with a large variety of goods. Business was very brisk, and the stallholders had a very busy time. The children found special delight in *the bran tubs, also the large variety of home-made sweets. The dining room j proved very popular, and did a steady trade all day. Judging the weight of a sheep resulted in a draw, Messrs lan Gow, Charlie Thompson and lan McDonald all with the correct weight. Stepping the chain was won by Mr Charlie Thompson, and nail driving by Mr Tressider who drove the nail home with three blows. Women’s nail driving, Mrs Norman Macdonald, four blows.
