Appeal To Building Controller To Let Businesses Expand
For quite some time now it has been next door to impossible to get a permit to build any extensions to business premises in other than temporary materials. So the backs of our business streets are starting to look a bit like the seat of a tramp’s .pants after an argument with a wolf pack, and the Borough Council thinks it isn’t good enough. On Monday night the city fathers mulled the thing over and decided to see if they couldn’t work the Building Controller round «to realising that this town’s rate of progress is not normal, but. downright phenomenal. A letter is to be sent to him suggesting that it is time consideration was given to allowing extensions to be made in permanent materials. Naturally, Borough Councillors realise that permits for half-acre blocks of modern luxury buildings are not likely with the housing situation the way it is, but they do feel that the regulations have been applied perhaps a little too stringently to small extensions to permanent buildings. . Civic pride shudders at some of the temporary extensions that have had to be permitted as the only alternative to holding back progress.
