Ex-Servicemen Get Almost 9,000 State Rental Houses

Until the end of August ex-ser-vicemen have received tenancies of 8,989 State rental houses and flats under the arrangement whereby at least half of those allocated go to ex-servicemen applicants. Allocations are made on the basis of urgency by rehabilitation housingcommittees' in each centre. During August the number of-State houses allocated to ex-servicemen was 164, Houses haVe been allocated to exservicemen as follows in the districts named, allocations for August being shown in parentheses:' Auck-land-North Auckland 2,603 (31); Waikato-Bay of Plenty 702 (14); Hawkes Bay-Poverty ; Bay 415 (13); Taranaki 259 (6); Wellington (including Wanganui, Manawatu and Wairarapa 3,136 (54); Nelson-Marl-borough-West Coast 223 (9); Canterbury Province 972 (28); Otago Province 486 (6); Southland ' 193 (3).
