Massey College Wool Association Produces Magazine

“Wool”, 1948, published by the Massey College Wool Association, Inc., is an attractive and well-com-piled annual, the first of its kind in recent New Zealand history, containing authoritative articles covering many aspects of the breeding of r.heep and the preparation of wool for market, together with • topical comment on market trends and items of interest concerning the trade generally. The publication should appeal to a wide section of the sheep and wool industry, including farmers,, brokers, and educational interests. Because of New Zealand’s importance as a wool producing country, the book is of interest in all countries where wool is an important product or trading commodity. The articles, while written primarily for the technical man. can he easily followed by those with kindred interests, and also by laymen. Appearing as authors of articles are some of the men foremost in the sheep and wool industry, and who are well known overseas from Now Zealand.

Subjects discussed include the work of the New Zealand Wool Board, the New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission, preparation of wool for market, the London wool market, the views of a stud-sheep breeder, and hill-country wool production. Sponsoring the publication is the recently-formed Wool Association attached to Massey Agricultural College, whose wool-diploma holders constitute the main membership. These men, who have at some time or other taken at the College the professional wool course under the patronage of the New Zealand Woolbrokers’ Association, are today filling executive and semi-executive positions in the wool trade in New Zealand, and some have gone overseas. The objects of the Association, some of which will be facilitated by the journal itself, include the promotion of greater efficiency in the preparation of wool for market, raising of the trade status of qualified wool men, and fostering of a spirit of friendship and mutual help among members.
