40,000 Dollars To Post One Letter!

Jeanette MacDonald has received her “most expensive” fan letter—from Shanghai, China. The letter, a ’’thank you” note for a picture sent out by the M.G.M. star, cost the writer 40,000 dollars in Chinese national currency to send to the United States, air mail. Miss MacDonald took a free minute from the set of “Sun in the Morning” to find out the rate of exchange—just td satisfy her own curiosity. She discovered that the 40,000 dollars worth of stamps on the envelope came to exactly three-fourths of 1 cent—American, money!
