Star In The Making

For her first movie role, Virginia McDowell will be given a costly wardrobe by 20th Century Fox. The sister of Roddy McDowell, she will play Lady Agatha in “The Fan” with a trunk full. ,of clothes designed by Rene Hubert, who created the costumes for “Forever Amber.” Her wardrobe will include several lavish ballroom gowns and garden party dresses. Director Otto Preminger has grouped her scenes together so that she will be able to leave Hollywood as soon as possible, to begin rehearsals .with an American • Repertory Company which will tour the country. She will play Lady Mac Duff in “Mcßeth” and Ophelia in “Hamlet.” The breaks came suddenly for her. Preminger saw her in “Mrs Moonlight” at the Pasadena Playhouse and signed her the same day that [Margaret Webster of the American Repertory theatre offered her the stage roles. Before that, for several years', she had been playing in little theatre productions around Los Angeles, but the moviemakers thought of her only as “Roddy McDowell’s sister.”
