Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. Garden Circle
The September meeting of the Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. gardening circle was held at Mrs Hughes’s home and Mrs Wylde presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs R. White read an interesting paper on gardening. The Whakatane Beautifying Show and the >W.I. Federation Show were discussed. Estimating the number of peas in a bottle was won by Mrs Wylde. The day’s competitions were judged by Mrs B. W. Hughes, Jnr. Best flower: Mrs Whiteman 1, Mrs R. White 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs R. White 2, Mrs. J. Mitchell 3. Vase of spring flowers: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Wylde 2, Mrs Hughes 3. Members viewed the beautifullykept gardens and lawns, which were greatly admired. At the conclusion of the afternoon, Mrs Wylde thanked Mrs Hughes for the use of her home and the pleasant time spent. Also, the hostesses were thanked for the afternoon tea. Next meeting is. to be held at Mrs J. Mitchell’s home.
