Edgecumbe Women’s Institute Meeting

At the recent meeting of the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute, Mrs Spiers presided in the absence of Mrs Fergusson. Group travel was discussed and all agreed that the scheme should be continued if possible. Mrs Mexted gave an interesting talk on her trip with the Group that travelled to North Auckland. The annual Garden Party is to be held this year at the residence of Mrs D. Spence. Highlight of the afternoon was a talk by Mrs Winstone on Red Cross work. In her talk, Mrs Winstone spoke of the pathetically grateful replies that had been sent to New Zealand Headquarters from chidren who had received clothing from this country. Her talk embraced the world-wide activities of Red Cross. At the conclusion. Mrs Spiers presented . Mrs Winstone with a pretty shoulder spray. The secretary announced that on October 1 Mrs- Peck would give a demonstration on the making of cellophane hats. Competition results:—, One egg chocolate cake: Mrs Blake 1, Mrs Magee 2, Mrs Martin 3.
