THORNTON SCOUTS’ FANCY DRESS BALL DRAWS BIG CROWD
A large crowd of both, young and older people gathered at the Thornton Hall on Saturday night, to take part in the Fancy 'Dress Ball, staged by the Thornton Scouts Committee. A party of Whakatane Cubs and their parents also went out to join in the evening’s fun. After the judging-of the costumes which was ably done by Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Peck of Otakiri, the rest of the evening was spent in dancing. The costumes were many and varied and provided much amusement for the onlookers. Prize winners were:— Best Lady in Fancy Dress: Mrs Ducker, Tangee Lipstick. Best Man in Fancy Dress: Mr Arbuckle, Berlei Advertisement. Best Scout: Bert Adams, Old Woman. Best Cub: Trevor Flay, Golliwog. ‘ Best Tiny Tot under 6 years: Dorothy Currie, Fairy. Most Humorous Girl: Kathleen Adams, Just Married. a Most Humorous Boy: Alan Currie, Absent-minded Professor. Most Original Costume: Ruth McDonald, Haberdashery. Two special prizes, donated by Mr C. Kingsley-Smith and Mr W.' Arbuckle, for the best Cub in uniform, apd the best fancy dress of the evening, were won by Cub Graham Bell and Mrs Ducker. Others in costume were: W„ Tooke, Beach Girl; N. Ducker, Eastern Princess; S. Ducker, Gipsy; B. Tooke, Flower; M. Paton, Queen; N. Walker, Lady; K. Walker, Nigger; J. Arbuckle, Sailor; K. Currie, Sir Walter Raleigh; N. Watts, Jester;- M. Tooke, Snowdrop; D. Currie, Hard Up; W. Walker, Clown; Gavin Walker, Lady; Gordon Walker, Lady; I. Paton, Cowboy;< M. Davis, Maori Chief; P. Needham, Shiek; A. Cave, Pirate; J. Bush, Pirate; R.
