ROTORUA BATH HOUSE DESCRIBED AS A DISGRACE
“The main bath house in the Rotorua Gardens—described as a “disgrace and eyesore” by one member—was the subject of discussion at a meeting of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce. The view that the Government should be approached through the Health Department, and asked to clean up the building was advanced by the civic pride committee, which had inspected the exterror and interior of the building. “That one of th.e main points of the Royal tour should be falling to bits is a disgrace,” stated the committee’s report. Built in 1906, the bath house had had three coats of paint, and last on the occasion of the visit of the Duke of Gloucester,' “Inside, there are holes in the roof through which the rain pours, and it is necessary to have ‘outside’ type guttering in the interior, to catch the downpour. There are many other features—and loose tiles, for instance.” It Was resolved that a letter be sent to the Minister of Health, with copies to the Minister of Internal 'Affairs, and the member for the district.
