INTER-BRIGADE FIRE FIGHTING DEMONSTRATIONS
Whakatane I| \P£s Ahead Of Opotiki In a competitive Fire Brigade demonstration at the Whaka- ' tane Showgrounds on Sunday, Whakatane scored 68 points compared with Opotilci’s 66J over six events. Only the two Brigades competed, but there were representatives of the Rangitaiki Brigade, present to get information on competitive work with a view to entering a team in the Bay of Plenty demonstration at Matamata on Labour Day. After that experience, the Rangitaiki Brigade hopes to be able to take part in inter-Brigade competitions with Whakatane and Opotiki. On Sunday, the teams were:— . Whakatane: Secretary A. Head, Firemen D. McDonald, R. Yeoman and A. Theobald. Opotiki: Foreman D. Burton and Firemen C. and P. Borrie and G. Shalfoon. Officials for the day were: Referee, ex-Superintendent F. H. Stewart; judges, Superintendents T. Hurndell (Whakatane) and G. Peagram (Opotiki), Deputy-Superinten-dent B. Norman (Whakatane). Following are the results:— 4-Man Trailer Pump: Opotiki, 69 sec, 1; Whakatane, 69 l-ssec, 2. One Man: Whakatane, 63 3-ssec, 1; Opotiki, 74 2 T ssec, 2. 2-Man Motor: Whakatane A, 32 2-ssec, 1; Opotiki A, 35 l-ssec, 2; Whakatane B, 37sec, 3; Opotiki B, 38 l-ssec, 4. 3 Men Disabled: Whakatane, 47 •l-ssec, 1; Opotiki, 53 2-ssec, 2. 4 Man Hose and Stand Pipe: Opotiki, 40 2-ssec, 1; wAakatane, 43 2-5 sec, 2. 4 4 Man Motor (2 waters): Whakatane, 55 2-ssec, 1; Opotiki, 63 4-5 sec, 2.
