HEAVY LIST OF CHARGES AGAINST GEORGE DUNCAN
Escapee Before Opotiki Court Special to the Beacon. • OPOTIKI, Tuesday. George Ahatahi Duncan, who ► escaped from the Opotiki police gaol on September 8 and was re-arrested last Friday afternoon, faced numerous charges . at the Opotiki Police Court yesterday. On three of the charges he ® was sentenced to three months’ gaol each, cumulative, and on the rest remanded. Detective Tom Sneddon, of Gisborne, prosecuted. These were the • charges:— Converting a car from Auckland on August 31, the property of Colin ,'R. McLean, remanded to September 27; stealing a 4-gallon tin and 3 gallons of petrol, 2 pieces of fuse, • 6 detonators and one gad, worth 15/2, the property of the New Zealand Gpvernment; conversion of a bicycle worth £8 at Waiotahi, the property of L. V. Looney; conversion of a horse, worth £l6, the property of G. H. Kirk, three months’ gaol on each charge, cumulative. Duncan pleaded guilty and was remanded to the Supreme Court at . Auckland on the following charges: Escaping from lawful custody at "Opotiki on September 8; stealing ;2 oilskin coats and a sports coat : from E. B. Smith at Kutarere; on -or about September 10, ’ entering : Steve Piacun’s fish shop and stealing a leather jacket, sports trousers, 2 dozen eggs and an overcoat worth £lO 11s 6d; stealing an oilskin lcoat and a wool jersey from R. H. ' King at Onepu on September 15.
