Chapped Hands
If you have chapped hands keep them out of water as much as you can, particularly water that is too hot or too cold. Avoid water that is alkaline, that has too much soda or soap powder in it. You may ask how you can do that .when there is all the washing to be done. There is only one thing for it and that is_ to use rubber gloves—not raw next to the skin but with a lining of thin cotton gloves. A superfatted soap is good if your hands are inclined to chap. If your hands do get rough and cracked you should rub something into the skin. Two parts of glycerine to one of eau-de-cologne is good; boracic ointment, vaseline, cold cream glycerine and rosewater are all good things. If tnere are really bad cracks some crude coal tar ointment should be rubbed in at night.
