Borough Building By-Laws: Certain Changes Suggested

Pointing out that a number of other local authorities and the State Advances Corporation were working on a low stud in present day building, a Whakatane firm of contractors has suggested to the Borough Council that it amend its building by-laws to reduce the minimum height from floor to ceiling from Bft 6ins to Bft. After discussion, the Council referred tljie proposition to thefinance committee for investigation and report. Cr K. Needham, who supported the suggested amendment on • the ground that the lower stud gave better ventilation as Well as cheaper building, suggested that, while they were ,on the job, they might specify concrete blocks. Wood blocks, he claimed, often gave borer the first foothold on a house. The committee will consider that also.
