Catchment Boards' Possible Attempt

Meeting at Whakatane last week, the executive of the Bay of Plenty Province Federated Farmers of New Zealand Inc. decided . to protest strongly against any attempt by Catchment Boards to increase the amount of the general levy. The executive also passed the following remits:— “This executive requests the Dominion Council to enquire into the control and distribution of cement in the Auckland Geographial Province with the view of providing for representation on the control committee pf Federated Farmers of N.Z. (Inc) Bay of Plenty Province. “That a Controlling Authority for the use and supply of penicillin for veterinary purposes be set up immediately. That supplies be distributed to Dairy Companies pro rata and steps be taken to ensure that areas with no Veterinary Surgeon be given adequate supply for cool storage. In the absence of any registered Veterinary Surgeon in the district Dairy Factory Managers be empowered to supply to bona fide farmers. It was decided to invite Mr R. G. Buekleton, Chairman of the Action Committee to address a series of meetings in the Bay of Plenty. The following centres being suggested: Katikati, Tauranga, Te Puke, Whakatane and Opotiki. The? secretary, Mr E. J. Vosper, reported on the farm schools held at Torere, Omarumutu, Omaio, Te Kaha and Waihau Bay ; and his action in donating prizes to the school pupils for the best essay on the schools was endorsed, and approval was given to donate four prizes. The essays were judged by Mr E. R. Marryatt, Fields Instructor, Whakatane, and were won by the following:—Kaka Mato, Te Kaha D.H.S., l;William Tawhai, Te Kaha D.H.S., 2; Dorothy Davis, Torere Maori School 3; Hokota Walker,- Te Kaha D.H.S., 4. There were 23 essays all of which were very good. Messrs Robins and Holmes, delegates to the Dominion Conference, gave very full reports on conference matters. Mr S. A. Wells reported on the meeting of the Dominion Council. The meeting was attended by Mr A. L. Friis, President, Messrs S. A. Wells, Katikati, and H. S. Holmes Opotiki, vice-presidents; Messrs A. H. Rowe, T. S. Ferguson, Pyes Pa; J. W. Rowe, J. R. Wright, Ohauiti; W. H. Morris, Tauranga; J. K. Hamilton, Oropi; S. K. Rowe, R. Walker, Opotiki; A. Robins, J. A. Boulcott,

D. C. Butler, I. B. Gow, Rangitaiki; J. G. Blackburn, Katikati; G. Hewitt, R. F. Wardlaw, Waimana; G. D. Vereoe, Te Puke and the Provincial Secretary, Mr Vosper.
