Fat Stock Scarcity
Subdivision into dairy units of properties which -once supplied the fat stock markets has further accentuated the trend away from the raising of stock for beef purposes observed over the past five years, states , the North Auckland MasterButchers’ Association in referring to the difficulties of the retail meat trdae. The association added that unless sufficient encouragement was given producers of fat stock for the winter period, it was evident that frozen meat would be on the tables of those who resided in the cities and larger municipalities. The state---ment said that the retail trader was forced to pay the increased prices now that were paid by the British Government for meats exported next season and at the same time was held to the price order based on the opening schedule for the 1947-48 season.
