HOSPITAL STAFF SHORTAGE STILL VERY ACUTE
v Little Chance For Children's Ward With no improvement in the staffing position at the Whakatane District Hospital during last month, and the further depletion of the staff by the withdrawal of three Sisters for midwifery training, there seems little chance of opening the children’s ward just yet. Yesterday’s meeting of the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board decided to write to Miss M. I. Lambie, Director, Division of Nursing, pointing out the Board’s staffing difficulties and asking if she can do anything towards replacing the three Sisters selected for midwifery training. The matron, Miss K. Miller,, reported that staff depletions had been caused by staff members leaving to seek further advancement of their training. On the motion of the chairman, Mr J. Mullins, it was decided to advertise the vacancies again nearer the end of the training period this year, when there might be more nurses seeking new positions.
