Hungry Europe
While food is far from abundant anywhere in Europe,, some countries - are more fortunate ' than others. Belgium and Switzerland will be best fed, clothed, housed and heated this European winter, while Bulgaria is suffering from the worst privations. In overall rationing, Britain is behind Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, but ahead of France, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Germany and Bulgaria. Holland, Italy and Czechoslovakia have rations about the same as those of Britain. Britain’s people are now receiving only 31b. of potatoes' per week, and Bulgaria’s potato ration is reduced to 201 b. a person for the whole winter.
