Housing Priority In Public Service
The present method of housing Ministry of Works employees at Mangakino on a salary basis is considered unsatisfactory by the New Zealand Public Service Association. The association, at a recent conference, passed a remit requesting the substitution of a more equitable system, with allocating committees on which the association has representatives. Such a move, it was stated, would enable a man’s length of service and the size of his family to be taken into consideration in allotting homes. Because of the housing shortage, the conference decided to press for an amendment to the Public Service Act providing any public servant with a right to appeal against compulsory transfer.
