Tour By N.Z. Dancer Barred In Australia
The 16-year-old Wellington dancer, Doreen Brown, who was selected recently as. the first New Zealander to join the Ballet Rambert under permanent contract, has been debarred from touring Australia. The refusal by the directors of ah Australian theatre chain to pay her fares and the higher salary which she would -draw, is given as the reason. Although she is a member of the Australian Actors’ Equity, acsording to her mother, Mrs H. R. Brown, a representative of the theatre group in Australia has stated that no New Zealapd girls will be taken on tour on the ground that the expense would be unwarranted.A representative of the New Zealand Theatrical and Places of Amusement Union said that he had not heard of any bar against Miss Brown dancing in Australia.
