LOCAL THEATRE PATRONS PREFER GOOD COMEDIES
Laugh Shows Top Popularity Poll During July the Regent Theatre ran a popularity poll on its programmes, the management considering that that month had a series of unusually good pictures. The voting showed that local picture-goers like * good comedy. Winners of the competition that went with the poll were Miss R. Williams and Mr R. Hunter. They both selected the most popular pictures correctly. The two pictures that headed the popularity list were “Life With Father”, clean family comedy based on everyday happenings, and “Stairway to Heaven” fantastic comedy Both scored equal points, but the former was preferred by men and the latter by women. There was a dead heat for next place between “Dear Ruth”, another comedy, and “Double Life”, strongly dramatic psychological problem story. Disney’s “Song of the South” never looked like a winner, but an interesting thing about the votes it did get was that a majority of them were cast by men..
