Progressive Assn . At Edgecumbe Has Successful Year

The first annual meeting of the Edgecumbe Progressive Association was held in the Central Theatre, Edgecumbe, last week. Considering the inclement weather conditions, the meeting was well attended and was representative of both town and country. : ' • ••. The meeting was opened' by the' chairman, Mr Woollett, who reminded the gathering of the untimely passing of Mr R. Hickling, who was a member of the Association and a ' well respected member of the community. He requested those present to stand in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect. , The balance sheet and annua.l report were read and adopted. These 1 showed that the first year of the ■ operations of the Association had been very successful. It can safely be assumed that if the same amount of success is achieved in the coming years the prospects look' exceptionally bright for a very progressive Edgecumbe. ’ Nominations were called for office bearers and members of the executive for the ensuing year. The fact that the same members for office and executive committee were nominated showed that the Association had complete confidence in the personnel and were satisfied with the work that had been done during the year. There being no further nominations the following were declared elected:— Chairman, Mr H. B. Woollett; secretary, Mr H. M. barter; treasurer, Mr H. W. Ward; executive committee, Messrs J. G. Hunter, W* Currie, D. G;. Hawkins, C. T. Plank, J. Barnes and D. Meikle. A strong appeal for recruits for the St John Ambulance Brigade was put forward and a sub-committee comprising Mrs T. Roberts and Messrs V. Green and S. Yardley was elected with a view of giving the Brigade all assistance possible and help in the effort to enlist volunteers in the Edgecumbe district.
