School Concert At Waimana
SONGS, DANCES, ONE-ACT PLAYS Waimana’s school concert was held recently and proved a great success in every way. The object was to raise funds to purchase a sewing machine for the school. The performance staged by the pupils, reflects great credit on the teachers for their efforts in training the children. The hall was packed and all seemed to enjoy the entertainment thoroughly. During- the interval, in the absence of Mr Robert Wardlaw, Chairman of the School Committee, Mr N. Eagle on behalf of the committee, presented ? Miss Girvin with a lovely teaset and wished her every success in the future, and stated how sorry all were to be losing her from the district and as a teacher. Mr Potter, headmaster, also expressed his regret at losing another teacher, who is to be married shortly, but wished Miss Girvin every happiness. Little Gordon Looney then carried in another lovely gift from the teachers -and pupils, a crystal reading lamp. Miss Girvin also received several bouquets of flowers. Mrs Potter, who has been a relieving teacher tor a term, was also presented with a bouquet and a pretty- cup, saucer and plate from the pupils, as a small appreciation' of her work while teaching and her great kindnesses to the pupils. Miss Girvin and Mrs Potter both suitably replied, thanking all for the lovely gifts and kindnesses, and wished the children every success in the future.
The programme presented was:— Cowboys, the songs being sung by the' Primers, Stds I and 11., A Play, “Forget-Me-Nots,” acted by Rex Eagle, Lynette Hampton, Kevin Such and Donald Bell. “Joan’s Dream,” Lynette King, Gordon Looney, June Wardlaw, Gael Hampton, Rosalie Kelson, Rebina Kakahina. “Bar the Door,” a humoorus sketch, by Frances Falkner, Sidley Falkner, William Wardlaw and Mauriki Heihei. Songs and dances, entitled Looby Loo and Hokey Tokey by the Primers, Stds I and 11. * 6 * A recitation, “I’d Like To Be,” by Gordon Looney. An amusing and pretty little play and songs, “Mary Had a Little Lamb” was presented by Elsie Tepapa, Lucy Manuka, Flora Huriwai, Athol King, Edward Heihei, Heria Heihei, Rosalie Kelson and Laurence Boynton. A humorous mime entitled “In a Hat Shop,” was acted by Rex Eagle and Frances Falkner. Sea songs, by Senior pupils. “The Sleepy Tree” was well acted by Sonny August, Gordon Looney Lynette King, Jim Brown, Lionel Boynton, Connie Tiorewiata. “The Circus”- played by Valerie Linwood, Rebecca Boynton; Marlene Wardlaw, Annette Henderson, Bertha McLean, Mary August, Richard Henderson and Gordon Wardlaw. “Vespers,” acted by Lynette and Athol King.
“Today’s Monday,” by Lynette Hampton, Terahopati Poni, Elsie Tepapa, Connie Tiorewiata, Bella I-luriwai, Jimmy Brown, June Wardlaw and Ross McDonald. , Humorous.. playette, “The Water Bottle,” by William Wardlaw, Mauriki Heihei, Richard Henderson and Norman Boynton. “The Old Spinning Wheel” was sung by Orini Boynton and acted by Annette Henderson arid Valerie Linwood. “The Children’s Hour” by John Boynton, Lynette Hampton, Frances Falkner, Donald Bell, Wharerata Maie, Bella Hiko, Hineari Brown, Norman Boynton. Duet, “Billy Boy,” sung and acted by Rebecca Boynton and Hineari Brown. The final item was a song by the senior pupils entitled “Cherry Song.” Mr Potter thanked all for their attendance and help towards the funds, and also thanked alt who helped in the backstage work.
