Building Permit For Workshop
COUNCIL REVIEWS EDGECUMBE CASE After considerable discussion the Whakatane County Council decided on Monday to issue a temporary building permit to Mr IL. Simpson to allow him to complete his garage at Edgeeumbe. It will be recalled that the Council took action recently to prevent the completion of the building which is of wood and iron, and which had been started in the brick area of the township without a permit from the Council. In his application for the permit, Mr Simpson explained he was servicing essential vehicles and that his previous neglect of the formalities had been due to ignorance of the by-laws. A petition signed by 75 people in the locality backed up the application. Mr Simpson offered to put the building on skids and to move it as soon as he could find a section to take it to. While Councillors were agreed the service to the public must be considered, some felt the by-laws should be observed. However, it was finally unanimously agreed that a temporary permit, to be reviewed from year to year, be granted, subject to certain conditions designed to cover the particular case.
