New Young Farmers' Club Formed at Wainui: Sixteen Active Members

Although the weather did not encourage attendance at meetings on Wednesday night one of the rooms of. the Wainui road school -was -well filled when an entirely new Young Farmers' Club was formed. Sixteen active members were enrolled and the pleasing thing is that no existing ciub will lose members to this new club as so often happens when a new club is formed. Besides local- young, men, representatives of the Eastern Bay of Plenty District Cpmmittee and offi-. cers of' Waimana and Thornton Young Farmers' Clubs were present to assist with the formation of the new club by drawing from their knowledge and experience of Y.F.C. work. This ready assistance by existing clubs to other groups wishing to resuscitate a club which had been in wartime recess or in forming a new club has always been a strong feature of the movement in the Bay of Plenty, members often coming from far afield at considerable inconvenience and expense.

At Wainui the District Chairman, Mr J. M. Barr, addressed the gathering on the history, development and activities of the movement in New Zealand; the District Vice-Chair-man, Mr J. C. Hawken, outlined the aims and objects of the movement and dealt with the constitution of the Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs in New Zealand. The District Secretary, Mr E. R. Marryatt, also spoke giving the new and inexperienced club some helpful advice based on the experiences of other clubs and his knowledge of club work. Other speakers added their quota of helpful hints. officers were elected as follows: Chairman, T. M. Burke; vicechairman, F. Burke; secretary, R. Sax; treasurer, D. Herdman; senior advisory member, C. H. White; advisory members, J. Sax, M. S. Tipping and A. Bradshaw; auditor, C. G. Price; club reporter, C. Burke. Monthly meetings are to be held on the first Tuesday in each month in the Wainui School and at the next meeting, the District Secretary, Mr Marryatt, will give a lecture on the duties of club officers and will assist the club in understanding the Constitution and in arranging a suitable programme for the remainder of the Y.F.C. year.
