UNIVERSAL MILITARY TRAINING
Sir, —Mr Melvin accuses me of being intolerant, reactionary and of vicious misrepresentation. I ...admit to- beipg .intolerant of Communism end, if-to'be reactionary is to oppose and try to eradicate this evil and cancerous growth, then I am proud to be re-actionary. vin says: "1 must warn this conference that -Universal Military Training may be the most costly and dangerous blunder this country could make" and dealing with Communism he says: "I enter this unofficial but earnest plea for careful deliberation before you commit the association to repressive legislation in this country." *• It would appear, then, that he was in both instances speaking for himself, and not for the 2 N.Z.E.F. Asciation! If there has been any vicious misrepresentation, surely it is by Mr Melvin himself when he remarks about the "Undemocratic JuntaControl of the N.Z.R.S.A." That, however, is typical of his "big frog in a little puddle" attitude! Mr Melvin has quoted several authorities to back up * his statements on universal training. I only need to mention one—Soviet Russia is putting up the best argument for me! What I am more concerned with is Mr Melvin's attitude towards Communism, and I do not think that kid glove methods will settle these industrial wreckers. Legislation to remove these people would be no more un-British than any of the present laWs. we have to protect life and property. There is no chance of building up our standard of lining while these disciples of Stalin, Lenin and Marx are permitted to ' hold the country to ranson, and the quicker v/e wake up to that fact, the better! Yours etc., G. M. HENDERSON. :} Pikowai, August 13. -- <-±^i
