LEGALITY OF UNION LEVY TO BE TESTED
An action to test in the Supreme Court the legality of a £1 levy struck by the Dunedin branch of the Tramway Employees’ Union is to be taken by a member of the branch. A similar levy was struck in October, 1947, by branches throughout New Zealand after expense had been incurred by the union in the handling of the claims for a 'Dominion agreement covering _ tramway workers. The total sum involved in the levy was more than £2OOO. The claim raises the question of the legality of certain of the rules of the union.
