Primary Schools Sports Rally At High School: Rugby & Basketball

Teams from the primary schools about the Whakatane district came to Whahatane on Wednesday to compete in the annual seven-a-side Rugby and Basketball tournament held at the High School and Domain. There were teams from -the Whakatane primary and Convent and from Waimana, Taneatua, Ruatoki, Tana/ Tana, Tawera and Paroa. In the Basketball section, twenty teams took part. From the players present, two teams are to be selected to play in the first annual interprimary school basketball ' tournament at Whakatane on August 14. In the seven-a-side Rugby tournament four of the players stood out as classy footballers who had something of a football idea. They were Wilson of Taneatua, Savage of Paroa and Oswald and Grey of Whakatane. Results:— Basketball (winners of the grades only): Paroa won the A Grade.' ■ Paroa B won the B Grade. Tawera won the Midgets Grade (under 4’ 8”).
