Awakaponga Farmlands Flooded When Tarawera River Breaks Banks
During the week-end the Tarawera river, swollen with the heavy rains, broke its northern hank in the Awakaponga district, flooding some 400 acres of farmlands owned by the three Withy Brothers and Mr H. S. Mexted. The area is still under water and, though the Land and Survey Department has teams working on the job, it ’is considered it will take some time to repair the break in the bank to prevent further flooding. It is understood the loss to the farmers involved will be considerable.
