Red Cross Contributions To Deserving Causes
The summary of the Overseas , and Dominion assistance given by the New Zealand Red Cross Society to various appeals and causes over the past year contained in the annual report of the Society shows that the organisation has contributed directly and indirectly £637,634 made up as follows: Food for Britain appeal £36,550 or 7,500 cases of food containing honey,' fats, malted milk, cheese, jellies, jams, barley sugar, Brufax, Shreddo, soups, oatmeal* cake and soap. In addition to this a number of parcels were sent to specified institutions. Save the Children Appeal resulted in 6,000 cases of clothing containing 600,000 garments valued at £600,000, were sent off. Twenty cases of medical supplies were sent off to China, the Melanesian Missions and to the British Red Cross. C.0.R.5.0. in addition to receiving £769 4s Id cash, received many cases of food and medicine and 110 sacks and several cases of shoes in response to a United Churches Appeal. Within the. Dominon contributions totalled £315 and were made to a number of institutions and clinics also to those who suffered in the Ballantyne fire disaster.
