Central Bay Women Beat Tauranga B—l
In the curtain raiser to the big match the Central Bay of Plenty women’s team defeated Tauranga by eight goals to one in' a very onesided game, Central Bay being always on the Tauranga goal line. Teams:— Central Bay of Plenty: Newdick, Haimoana, Bridger, Edwards, Stones, Edwards, Grant, Cannell, Keepa, Matchitt, Hunia. ■ Tauranga: Oaoki, Hodge, L. Bryers, J. Bryers, Desmond, H. Mansen, Raymond, Clarke, Hutson, Green, Petersen. Whakatane rushed the Tauranga goal and in the first few minutes established a two goal lead. Play then settled into an attack by the Bay with Cannell and Matchitt and Keepa doing solid work. Cannell was. the outstanding player in the Whakatane forwards. Tauranga rallied and played hard, but the effort, was not sustained and after one score the visitors retired before the renewed attack of the home side. Apart from a few desultory dashes, ‘Tauranga did nothing impressive for
the rest of the match. K. Hutson and P. Green did most of the work in ' the Tauranga forwards and J. Desmond played the best game in thq backs.
