Institute Drama Festival Earns Judge’s Compliments

A well-filled hall on both days of the recent Drama Festival at Taneatua proved again that an increasing interest in drama is being shown in this area. Organised by the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women’s Institutes, the festival tested the acting ability of nine allwomen casts. The adjudicator, Mrs Judith Terry, of Auckland, proved most entertaining and in her comments after each play imparted many useful rules and hints for future improvement. In her opinion, the players showed evidence of past tuition and teamwork and choice of plays was both good. f At the conclusion of the second day’s programme Mrs Armstrong, Federation president, thanked Mrs Terry for her excellent advice, and also thanked the members of the Taneatua Women’s Institute who had worked so hard to provide lunch and afternoon tea on both days. The iced cake donated by Mrs Peck, was won by Mrs Gardiner, and the dinrer by Mrs Marx. At a performance of the. prizewinning plays at Edgecumbe" on Tuesday the following awards were presented:— Drama: Taneatua 1, Edgecumbe and Matata equal 2. Comedy: Taneatua 1. Mtost Outstanding Player: Iris Hepburn; runner-up, Ngaire Sullivan.
