PUBLICITY FILM CRITICISED
A Government publicity film on wheatgrowing in New Zealand he had seen screened in a theatre in Wellington was “unadulterated propaganda, aimed at trying to educate the people in the cities ' that the farmers were letting the country clown,” said the president of the Wellington central provincial executive of the Federated Farmers, Mr F. C. Jurgens at a meeting in Marton. Urging that steps be taken to have the film withdrawn, he said it depicted scenes of wheat being destroyed while people of India and China were starving. Mr J. D. Simpson, a member of the Dominion Council, agricultural produce section of the Federated Farmers, said he had seen the film. In his opinion it was harmful propaganda. It was decided to point out to the New Zealand Federated Farmers’ headquarters that the film was likely to cause a great deal of harm and ask that measures be taken to have it withdrawn.
