Note From South Africa
“I think I am right in saying that we don’t know what team we shall be able to field next year,” writes a Capetown Rugby enthusiast who toured New Zealand as one of the* official party with the 1937 Springboks. “The forwards should be all right. We breed them just naturally, but goodness knows what backline we will have to represent us. We'haye-really no'onie? outstanding, and of Codrse, there will be none of the team work which- was the real secret of our success in 1937. “We do things in a haphazard/ way in South Africa, and no tests or trials have been arranged to get our best men together. This year we’ll probably have friendly provincial matches, but otherwise there is no special preparation for 1949. We are really less serious about football than you people.”
