The Hot And Cold Of It

A specially made white wig of rubberised plastic was worn by George O’Brien in the minstrel sequence of “My Wild Irish Rose.” The wig was saved from melting under the hot set lights by keeping the actor in heavy blankets between scenes and rushing him into a special dressing room which was kept at a low temperature. The wig could not be removed during the day’s shooting because it would have cracked, so O’Brien had to bake and freeze his head alternatively for the sake of a hank of plastic hair.—W.B.
