SOME COMMON SENSE WAYS TO COMBAT INDIGESTION
(By the Department of Health) Whether you call it indigestion, dyspepsia or plain tummy-ache, it’s no fun. The. trouble shows itself in many ways; You may simply suffer loss of appetite, a bad taste in the mouth, or bad breath. Or there may be heartburn, that hot pain felt under the breastbone, fullness after meals, flatulence or general pain in the upper abdomen. Anyone with indigestion _ should review their daily routine because simpler rules of living can usually dispose of the trouble. Over-fatigue is sometimes the cause. Hurry and fuss, particularly early iri the day, are likely to upset the stomach. Get up early enough to take your time over breakfast. Wherever possible, rest for ten minutes or so before meals as well as after. , Indigestion might possibly be due to constipation, but it is much more likely to be caused by laxatives, taken regularly without medical advice, in an effort to control constipation. It may "Be possible to cure constipation by drinking more water before breakfast and at bedtime, by “eating more fruit and vegetables and by regular walking. Food not properly chewed irritates the stomach. Get all decayed teeth filled or extracted, and have enough back 'teeth to give a good chewing surface. Bad gums need a dentist. As for food itself, quantity should probably be less and quality better, for the dyspeptic. If indigestion continues, consult your doctor, particularly if you work where poisonous materials are used. Take no patent medicines at all without his advice. Finally, cut your worries, and take your time over meals and enjoy them.
