Bandy-Legs Lead Actress To Start Screen Career
Googie Withers relates that it was the parental disquietude over her bandy legs as a child that led her by devious ways to- become an actress. A training in acrobatic dancing, it was decided, would straighten out the offending curves; the cure was effective but it led to a professional interest in dancing and so on to the stage. It took a modest accident to lead to great rewards, for Googie Withers is generally accepted today as one of our best actresses both on stage and the screen with such a wide range of performances as were seen in “They Came to a City,” “Private Lives,” “Dead of Night” and “The Loves of Joanna Godden.” She appeared in her first film when .17 and in 13 crowded years has made more than 40 films.
