Waimana Gardening Circle
The June meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou gardening circle was held at Mrs Hewitt’s home, Waimana. Mrs J. Mitchell gave an interesting reading on the growing of mint for winter use and also the preparing of an asparagus bed. A competition arranged by Mrs Hewitt, writing as many words in a given time, from the word (gardening), was won by Mrs Wylde. The day’s competitions were judged by Mrs Stevenson and' Mrs J. D. Wardlaw and the results were:— . A vegetable or fruit novelty: Mrs T,., G.. King 1 with a- floating bowl made with a pumpkin shell and water lilies of carrots and small cabbage’ leaves, Mrs Hewitt 2, and Mrs A. Macdonald 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs M. W. King 2. Best flower: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs M. W. King 2, Mrs Wylde 3.
