Swing Club’s First Open Dance

■ The Whakatane Swing Club held its first Open dance in the Winter Show Buildings on Saturday night. Music’ was supplied by the club’s own newly-formed six-piece orchestra. Among the novelty dances was a penalty and poser foxtrot in which the couple standing on a certain spot on the floor had to do whatever the M.C., Mr Fred Burt, should say or pay the penalty. Some highly amusing acts were given. A new Monte Carlo was also introdued, in which only the men of the quarter were cut out and the women had to find partners after a short chain. This was won by Mr G. Gartshore and Miss M. Wilson. Several items were given during the evening, including a Hula by Miss A. Wilson, of Taneatua.
