Film Stars’ Arts Outside Screen: Number Noted For Other Occupations
.The creative urge has stimulated a group of film actors who don't stop with acting. They invade other fields of artistic endeavour, not only for handsome dividends, but to soothe the restless spirit. Ida Lupino, currently starring in Warners' "Deep Valley," is gaining a reputation as a writer of stories and a composer of music. RKO recently took an option on an original scenario which she called "Miss Pennington." In "Deep Valley" she hums one of her own compositions, "Rain Go, Away." Her "Aladdin Suite" has been played by symphony orchestras, and she" has completed in partnership with William Maclllwinen, former Navy officer, the book and score for a musical titled "Apple Tree Farm." Vincent Price is another famed as a critic of painting and sculpture. Errol Flynn concentrates on writing when away from the sound stages. In recent years he has written -numerous magazine articles and two published books, "Beam Ends" and "The Showdown." He recently did a screenplay based on the life of Robert Louis Stevenson and a fictional script titled "The Jamaican Family." James Mason and whimsical Roland Young have found additional fame via sketching. Pejer Godfrey and Chester Morris are magicians of professional skill. Lionel Barrymore is famous for his classical compositions while, of all people, J. Carroll Naish, noted for cinematic villainy, shines at recording bedtime stories for children.
