Actress On New Look
Beatrice Campbell 23 year old, blonde Associated British actress, is particularly qaulified to add her voice to the international long-skirt controversy . . . because for the past two months she has been spending her days wearing long skirts of the 1912-1916 period for her part in the film, “My Brother Jonathan.” 1 The calf-length skirt was much in evidence when Beatrice called in
at Paris on her way back from the Brussels Film Festival; nevertheless, she doesn’t think it is very practicable for the busy girl-about-town of today. “Given the right figure and the right place . . . say a ballroom or a theatre . . . these fashions can certainly be an asset,” says Beatrice, “but I think they are utterly unsuitable as daytime wear in office or in factory.” B.E.F. Was His Face Red? Richard Atenborough, who stars as ‘Pinkie’ neurotic razor-gang leader in “Brighton Rock,” went down to Brighton (leading English seaside resort) in a dinner jacket to present the prize in a dance competition. Passing through a corridor carriage of the train he was called back by another passenger. “Bring me a bottle of beer waiter,” he said to Dickie. Dutifully the star obtained the beer from the refreshment kitchen
and the passenger rewarded him with a 3d trip. But was the passenger’s face scarlet when he saw the welcoming crowd for the “waiter” on the platform. B.E.F.
