Groat Found In Bridge

Three old coins have been found by workmen excavating for the foundations of the new bridge across the Huatoki stream in Gill Street, New Plymouth. They are an 1856 fourpenny piece (a “groat”), an 1820 farthing with the . head of George IV. and a penny which is so corroded that the date cannot be seen. The coins were found embedded in an old stone protective wall.
