THORNTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The June meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute was held last Thursday, Mrs Ducker presiding. Four new members were enrolled, and presentations were made to two members leaving the district. Letters of thanks and appreciation were read from the Scottish Link for food parcels received. Mrs Robb offered to pack this month’s parcel^ Mrs Lennon gave a very interesting talk on nursing in England during the war. Mesdames Craddock and C. Smith played two duets to an appreciative audience. Mrs Craddock won the competition, Mrs D. Branch the raffle in aid of general funds. Competition winners were:— Face cloth: Mrs Walker 1, Mrs Sheat 2. Biscuits: Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Walker Jnr. 2. Vase of flowers: Mrs Lennon 1, Mrs Ducker 2. Best flower: Mrs Lennon 1, Mrs D. Branch 2. Best vegetable: Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs Ferguson 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Patton, Walker and Smith. ,
