Alach) indicated that the cargo tonnage brought oyer the wharves was lower for the months, of March , and April of this year thari that for the corresponding periods of 1947. The decline, he added, was fnainly due to shipping hold-ups. The board asked the business -people to give the shipping to Tauranga a fair share of their trade. The necessity for both services—rail, and shipping—to be kept going was realised. They both were, essential services, declared the chairman. -
